Cyberbullying [1]

Scenario 6

Your Digital Footprint & Your Clients_2.jpgWhile Sonia was away from her phone, her friend had dipped into her photo album and sent all the male contacts in her Facebook account a photo of her on holiday in a bikini, saying "How about it? Just for fun?" Initially Sonia laughs it off.

When Sonia returns to her desk, a guy from her contact list messages her: "Your on" ...Sonia messages everyone to explain that it was a joke. The guy who replied and offered, is mortified.

He leaves the following message on her public networking profile:

"I am glad you and your friends are having a laugh at my expense, I will get you back for this - expect to see that photo all over campus"

Please select an answerThis is not the best advice, perhaps Sonia should take a screen shot of everything that happened and keep it as evidence in case the situation does escalate - the comment he has made is quite difficult to interpret in the absence of facial expression or intonation - tell Sonia he could be trying to be funny. She should consider trying to sit down with him and explaining that this was not her idea or her fault. If this has no effect, she should seek the support of the students' union or her tutor. This is not the best advice, tell Sonia that this guy could post her picture all over campus. Perhaps she should take a screen shot of everything that happened and keep it as evidence in case the situation does escalate. Advise her that it is always best to try to sit down together, face to face, when there is conflict and explain that this was not her idea or her fault. If this has no effect, Sonia could then seek the support of the students' union or her tutor. This is the best advice. Sonia should find out where he is and try to arrange to go and sit down and talk to him, offer to go with her. Shaming him in public could just result in more anger and frustration on his part.
