Spino-cerebellar pathway > basic information

spino-cerebellar pathway Spino-cerebellar tract (dorsal, uncrossed) Spino-cerebellar tract (ventral, crossed) Cerebellum on brain - ventral view

KEY CONCEPTS:

  • The spinocerebellar tracts carry somatosensory information to the same side of the cerebellum. Their positions in the spinal cord and their entry routes into the cerebellum are a little different.

  • The ventral spinocerebellar tract crosses twice to finish up on the same side as the dorsal spinocerebellar tract input. However, it does give collaterals to the opposite side of the spinal cord, so that there is a route to the contralateral side of the cerebellum.
